How to Fill In Your Work Experience

In this article we are going to review the process of creating a new work experience.

Work experience is first completed as the third step of the initial registration process. Yet, it can always be modified from your onlineresume.us dashboard.

Keep in Mind:

By default, work experience is the third section under the “Edit Resume” tab’s drop-down menu. It is right after the educational background section. However, work experience is often more important than educational background. So, remember you can always modify the order of sections and show your work experience first.

Instructions:
  1. To add a new work experience click on the “Add a work experience” button at the bottom of the page.
  2. A new box will appear for you to enter the following information about your work experience:
    • Job Title: the name of your job position
    • Employer: the name of your company/employer
    • Start Date: the approximate date of when you began working. The input field of the date has a day/month/year format, yet on the resume only the month and year (month/year) will appear. Thus, you can enter any specific day; it is not relevant.
    • End Date: he approximate date of when you finished working for this company/employer. The format of the end date is identical to that of the start date.
*If you are still working for this company/employer, mark the checkbox “Present,” and leave the end date blank.
  3. Add as many job positions as you like, by clicking on the “Add a work experience” button.
  4. Your work experiences will appear on your online resume in chronological order, starting with the most recent.
  5. Finally, it is very important to save the changes so that your new information is successfully added to your resume.
What if I am a self-employed or freelance worker?

If your work experience was not in a company, you can always put “self-employed” or “freelance” in the space for employer.

Tips:

Don’t leave even one experience off your list! You should include all of the work experiences that you consider relevant.

Keep in mind that the predefined “work experience” is for professional experiences. If you have another kind of experience that is not professional, such as volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, etc., you should create a new section with a list of your complementary experiences. You can even create a section for each specific complementary experience.
