How to Create Your Resume as a Word Document and Edit It

As you know, if you have the option to download your resume as a Word document activated, this file will be available for you or your online resume visitors to download.

By default, your Word document resume will include the fixed Education, Work Experience, Languages, and Personal/Contact Information sections. You can also add other sections that you have created in the “Edit My Resume” section. To do this, follow the instructions below.

Personalize the Word version of your online resume

You can modify the sections that appear on the Word document version of your resume by adding or removing sections.

If you want to add a section that you have previously created, you should:

  1. Once you have logged into your onlineresume.us account, click on the “Word Resume tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. To edit the Word document version of your resume, the ability to download your online resume as a Word file must be activated. If it is not, activate it here.
  3. Next, you can start to add the sections that you have created by dragging them from the right-hand box to the left-hand box. In order to select a section, simply click on the section icon in the left-hand corner (you will notice that the icon changes to appear like this once it is selected) and drag it to the left-hand box. You can release the section once you see that it has successfully been placed in its new position, as it will be bordered by a dashed line.

    In order for the new section to be placed correctly, you must align the section icon with the other section icons. In other words, make sure that the new section is parallel to the other sections.

  4. Once you have relocated all of the sections that you want to include in your Word document resume, you can put them in order, within the left-hand box, by using the same selecting and dragging technique.
  5. Finally, it is very important to save the changes. Click on the “Save” button within the box marked “Sections selected for your resume Word"
  6. You can verify that your Word document resume has been updated by downloading it. You can also visit your online resume and download it from there.

f you want to remove some sections that are currently on your Word document resume, follow the instructions below:

  1. Once you have logged into your onlineresume.us account, click on the “Word Resume tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. To edit the Word document version of your resume, the ability to download your online resume as a Word file must be activated. If it is not, activate it here.
  3. Next, you can start to remove the sections by dragging them from the left-hand box, marked “Sections selected for your resume Word" to the right-hand box, titled “Discarded sections.” Simply click on the section icon that you want to remove from your resume, (you will notice that the icon will change to appear like this when selected) and drag the section to the right-hand box. You can release the icon once you see that the new position of the section is marked with a dashed line.

    In order for the new section to be placed correctly, you must align the section icon with the other section icons. In other words, make sure that the new section is parallel to the other sections.

  4. Finally, it is very important to save the changes. Click on the “Save” button within the box marked “Sections selected for your resume Word"
  5. You can verify that your Word document resume has been updated by downloading it. You can also visit your online resume and download it from there.
